Matchy Matchy Sewing Club’s Collage Gather Top is a perfect introduction to the world of garment sewing, or a great way to practice and refine your skills. Choose your own adventure: opt for long or short sleeves each constructed differently, and mix and match prints and colours to make up the blouse’s panels. There are tons of ways to create a top that is totally unique to you.
This is a three-session class. Please ensure you can attend all three sessions
As prerequisites to taking this class, you should know the basic operations of a sewing machine, like how to thread a machine, wind a bobbing and back stitching (locking stitch.) Essentially, if you have completed a couple small projects, are looking to ease back into sewing, or have taken a “Learn to Sew” class at Fabrications, this class is for you!
You will learn how to:

plan a garment sewing project, take your measurements, and choose pattern size

read and follow a sewing pattern

create gathers with a sewing machine

bias bind a neck

ease in sleeves (view A) OR gather sleeves and attach a band (view B)
You will need:

tracing paper

washed light to midweight woven fabric – consider cotton shirting, lightweight twill, or linen or ramie for a more structured look. For a more flowy look, consider washed linen, double gauze, or lightweight cotton,

For 44” wide fabric, 1.4m to 2.5m depending on size and view

For 54” wide fabric, 1.4 to 2.8m depending on size and view
