Introduction to English Paper Piecing - Hexies Class (Beginner - Sewing)
Come learn how to make hexies! What are hexies? They are the basic shape of English Paper Piecing (EPP) for making a Grandmother’s flower garden quilt. This quilting technique involves stabilizing fabric pieces with paper before sewing them into intricate designs. It is most effective for shapes that do not have long straight sides and will require numerous set-in corners, such as hexagons. Because EPP is done by hand, it makes a terrific on-the-go project. Once you master this technique, you will be ready to tackle any EPP project.
Prerequisites:
- None but being familiar with handsewing is an asset.
You will learn:
- how to use EPP templates
- how to prepare your fabric either using glue basting or thread basting
- how to attach hexies together two ways, either using a whip or ladder stitch.
We will provide:
- A pack of 25 handsewing needles with needle threader
- A tin of Sew Fine thread gloss
- 220yds/201m spool of Aurifil 50wt thread in Dove Grey
- A narrow washable glue stick for fabric
- 50 pre-cut 1" paper hexagons
You will need:
- quilting cotton scraps - must be at least 2.5" square or a layer cake if you do not have any scraps
