Pattern Drafting I: Basic Skirt (Advanced - Sewing)

Draft a basic 4-piece skirt with CB zip, facings, and darts using your measurements. Light homework between classes is recommended. If things go well, let’s throw in pockets and pocket facings. At the end of the class you will have YOUR basic skirt block, pattern, and muslin skirt perfect for DRAFTING II adding flares, godets, pleats, seams or gathering.
Prerequisites:
- You should know how to use a sewing machine, ie. threading, winding a bobbin
- Knowledge of garment construction and use of commercial sewing patterns
You will learn:
- how to take measurements
- how to plot your measurements
- pattern planning and drafting
- fitting and adjusting your pattern
- some designing
Materials Needed:
- 1m of muslin or suitable non-stretch woven fabric
- Mechanical pencil
- Pattern paper (or Pattern Trace)
- Clear ruler, example 30 - 50 cm x 5cm
- French curve
- L-square
- Metre/Yard stick
We will provide:
- use of sewing machine and sewing tools during class
