Learn to Sew the Rika Pants Class (Advanced Beginner/ Intermediate)

Have you sewn a few garments, maybe some pants with an elastic waist... well join me as we step up our skills and take on pants with a proper fitted waist. The Rika Pants by Closet Core can be sewn up for a variety of look. They can be used to create some very functional carpenter like pants, or a timeless trouser with a deep hem cuff, maybe you'd even like to wear them cropped. They can be sewn with a traditional waistband or with a tabbed front band and angled belt loops. The pattern also has a nice generous straight leg. The possibilities are truly endless. 

This class is designed for intermediate students or very confident advanced beginners that have previously sewn elastic waist pants. It will be a 5 session class with some homework. The second class will focus on fit as we check the fit of the pants with a muslin. 

You will learn how to;

• make fit adjustments
• grade between sizes
• interpret and visualise what adjustments need to be made
• sew a zipper fly
• sew belt loops
  

You will need;

• Fabric for your muslin and fabric for the final version! 
  • Muslin version - this will be a mock up version without all the fussy bits, you can purchase muslin in store, or use an old bed sheet, depending on size you may need 3m or similar. 
  • Final version - a stable bottom weight woven such as cotton canvas, twill, denim, gabardine, or even corduroy, for;
        45" wide fabrics - 2.7m to 3.9m
        58" wide fabrics -2m to 3.5m 
    please verify your fabric needs with the pattern 
• 7" (sz. 0-20) or 9" (sz. 14-32) pants zipper
• 0.5m of light fusible interfacing
• matching thread or be bold an go for contrasting thread
• a 1/2" sew-in hook and bar OR a 5/8" button for the front closure
  *Optional, a lighter weight pocket lining fabric 0.5m 

We will provide;

• a digital and printed AO copy of the Rika Pant pattern
• a sewing machine for in class use
• all the necessary tools for a successful project
