Are you lucky enough to have a spot for your sewing machine to be on display? Or maybe you have a dear sewing friend, mother or grandmother that does, well it's important to help keep the dust off and out of it. Consider this your time to sew or gift a beautifully quilted dust cover for the machine. Come on out and learn the quilt as you go techniques, where the piecing and quilting happen at the same time. This is an absolutely brilliant technique for new sewists and for anyone who might want to dip their toes into the art of quilting.

This class is geared toward an advanced beginner, meaning, you can thread a sewing machine, know the basic operations of one and you understand how to follow a seam allowance.

You will learn how to:
  • cut your fabric accurately
  • plan your design layout
  • attach binding
  • quilt as you go
You will need:
  • fabric, such as quilting cotton
    • measure the length of your machine and add 12" to account for some overhang and seam allowances.
    • for example, my machine measures 17" + 12"= 29" So I'll need to buy 0.75m at the minimum for the top, so I might choose 5 strip colours. I'd buy 0.25m x WOF of my strip colours so I can play with colour and placement
  • 1 m backing fabric
  • 0.5m of quilting cotton for the binding
We will provide:
  • the batting
  • the use of a sewing machine in class
  • all the necessary tools for a successful project
