Knitting Mysteries Class (Advanced Beginner - Knitting)
When learning to knit, it often feels like you’re learning a whole new alphabet and language, which is a drop in the bucket when you also consider all those bits of knowledge that pattern designers and yarn companies just assume you already know! Why not join Emily and your fellow students for an interactive discussion on knitting/yarn knowledge? This class will follow more of a seminar structure where students will be encouraged to ask prepared or spontaneous questions. We have listed a few potential topics below but are happy to answer/investigate whatever questions students might bring with them.
Required Skills:
- You will get the most from this class if you already know how to knit - we recommend having a couple of projects under your belt at minimum.
You will learn:
- Understanding yarn gauge and weights
- Relationships between yarn weight and needle size
- Choosing yarn based on project constraints
- How and why to block a finished piece
- How to frog a project and rejuvenate the yarn to use again
- How to wash hand-knitted pieces
- The merits of different cast ons and bind offs
- Answers to other student questions as they arise
You will need:
- Questions! Students are encouraged to bring questions with them to class.
- A notebook and pen, if you’d like to take notes.
- Your knitting, if you would like to knit as we talk.
