Have you seen zipper tape (also known as zipper by the yard) and been curious how you use it? Want to learn how to use waxed canvas or faux leather in bag making? This is the class for you! We will sew the Devon Pouch from Sotak Handmade and make a charming and practical zipper pouch.
Prerequisites:
- how to thread and use a sewing machine
- how to wind a bobbin
- how to construct simple seams
- be familiar with sewing terminology such as "right sides of fabric together" and "seam allowance"
You will learn:
- how much zipper by the yard to use to replace a fixed length zipper
- how to install a zipper pull on zipper tape
- how to install a zipper in a pouch in two ways
- how to work with faux leather and waxed canvas
- how to use a "Measure and Cut" bag pattern
We will provide:
- use of sewing machine during class
- any tools needed during class
- a jeans sewing machine needle
You will need:
- to purchase a copy of the pattern directly from the pattern designer. Here or on Etsy.
- please either print out the pattern instructions or have them available on your phone or tablet for the class
- 1 FQ or 0.25m of exterior fabric (waxed canvas or faux leather)
- 1 FQ or 0.25m of quilting cotton for lining
- 20" of zipper tape/zipper by the yard plus two zipper pulls
- 0.5m of medium weight woven fusible interfacing such as SF101 or Presto
- matching thread - 50 wt polyester thread
