Get to Know Your Serger and Make a Banded T-Shirt Class (Advanced Beginner - Sewing)

Do you have a love hate relationship with your serger? Are you too afraid to use it? Maybe you just can’t figure out how to get started. If so, our beginner serger class will teach you the basics of serger use.
Prerequisites:
- you are familiar with simple garment making ie. right sides together, how to cut out a pattern
You will learn:
- Threading the machine and changing your thread
- The purpose of 3 or 4 threads
- How to sew inside and outside curves
- How to make gathers with the differential feed
- how to sew knits on a serger
- how to select your pattern size
- how to cut out a knit garment
- how to construct a t-shirt with a neckband, cuffs and waistband
You will need:
- Bring your serger, all accessories and instruction manual - please make sure your machine is in good working order and has all the parts needed.
- 4 different coloured spools of serger thread
- Notebook and pen/pencil
- Woven & knit fabric for practising (scrap fabric will work!)
- 1.5m of knit fabric suitable for your t-shirt
- matching serger thread
- tracing paper
The studio has TWO sergers available for students.
- if you are bringing your OWN serger, please select the ticket type 'Bring your own serger'
- if you need to borrow the one serger we have, please select the ticket type 'Borrow our serger'
WE CANNOT AND DO NOT GUARANTEE that there will be a serger available for you to use if you do not select the appropriate ticket type.
We will provide:
- a copy of the Jalie Laurent pattern
- any sewing tools needed during class
