Sew Your Own Zippered Pouch Class (Advanced Beginner - Sewing)

Want to try your hand at creating a stylish and functional zippered pouch and know how to use a sewing machine? This hands-on course is designed for individuals who have some basic sewing experience and want to take their skills to the next level. Throughout the class, you'll learn essential techniques and tips to confidently sew a zippered pouch that can be used as a trendy accessory or a practical storage solution.

You will be making the LARGE sized pouch (final measurements approximately 8.5” x 8” x 4.5”).
This class is two sessions.  Please make sure you can attend both sessions.

Prerequisites:
  • how to thread and use a sewing machine
  • how to wind a bobbin
  • how to construct simple seams
  • be familiar with sewing terminology such as "right sides of fabric together" and "seam allowance"
You will:
  • learn the step-by-step process of constructing a zippered pouch, including pattern cutting, fabric selection, and zipper installation
  • gain proficiency in using a sewing machine, sewing straight lines, and sewing curves
  • learn how to “birth” a bag
  • learn how to create a square/flat bottom
We will provide:
  • use of sewing machine during class
  • any tools needed during class
You will need:
  • a copy of the free pattern Noodlehead Open Wide Zipper Pouch
  • 0.25m of contrast bottom fabric (or two pieces of fabric/cork/faux leather, oilskin measuring at least 6.5” tall x 14” wide)
  • 0.25m of main fabric 
  • 0.5 m of lining fabric (we suggest quilting cotton and you can see what is available here)
  • 0.5 m of fusible fleece
  • 1 x 14” zipper
  • Matching thread
