Quilted Jacket Class (Intermediate - Sewing)
Have you wanted to make a quilted coat but didn't know where to start? Join us for an intensive, hands-on sewing class where you'll create a cozy, stylish quilted jacket using the pattern of your choice! In this class, we'll focus on the art of quilting, guiding you through the process of designing and assembling the quilted material that will make your jacket truly unique. Whether you're a seasoned quilter or newer to the craft, this class will help you master essential techniques, from selecting fabrics and batting to piecing and quilting your design. By the end of the class, you'll have a beautifully quilted jacket, ready to wear or gift!
This class is six sessions. Please make sure you can attend all sessions. This class will also have homework.
Prequisites:
- experience successfully completing several quilting/sewing projects;
- this class will not cover basic sewing machine operation such as threading a needle, switching needles, how to adjust stitch length, locking stitches, reverse stitching, pivoting corners, winding bobbins etc.
- familiarity with quilting
You will learn how to:
- take your measurements and pick the correct pattern size for your jacket
- make basic adjustments to your pattern
- follow a garment pattern
- make a quilt sandwich
You will need:
- a pattern for your quilted jacket

- Pattern Suggestions:
- fabric for the outer and lining
- we will discuss in the first class what type of quilt coat you would like to make (one fabric, pieced design on the back, pieced all over the coat) and determine how much fabric you will need but please bring any fabric that you are considering using
- batting
- we will also discuss in the first class, what type of batting you want to use and how much you will need
- thread
- tracing paper
- any quilt patterns or blocks that you are considering for your jacket
We will provide:
- use of a sewing machine and any sewing tools needed during class time
Class Schedule
- First session: we will determine how much fabric is needed for your jacket and which type of batting you would like to use.
- Please bring any materials you are considering using for your jacket.
- We will trace our patterns and make any adjustments.
- Homework: Finish tracing your pattern and sourcing fabric and batting.
- Second session: we will piece together our quilt tops.
- Homework: Finish piecing quilt tops.
- Third session: we will make our quilt sandwiches and start quilting our sandwiches.
- Homework: Finish quilting.
- Fourth session: we will cut out our jackets from our quilted pieces.
- Homework: Finish cutting out the jacket.
- Fifth session: we start to sew together our jackets.
- Howework: Sewing more of the jacket.
- Sixth session: finish sewing our quilted jacket together.
