Introduction to Hitomizashi Sashiko Class (Beginner - Embroidery)
Try another type of Sashiko! This is Hitomizashi, made popular by author Sashikonami. Hitomizashi is a traditional Japanese form of sashiko embroidery. It involves creating patterns by stitching small, evenly spaced straight lines, often resembling grids or geometric designs. The name "Hitomizashi" translates to "one-stitch sashiko," referring to the single running stitch used to build the patterns. This style emphasizes simplicity and repetition, resulting in visually intricate designs that are both decorative and functional. Historically, it was used to reinforce and repair fabric, particularly work clothing, but today it is also appreciated as an art form.
