Bundle Dyeing with Natural Dyes (Beginner - Special Interest)

In this workshop, you'll gain an understanding of how to work with natural dyes as you explore the process of bundle dyeing. Each student will leave with two dyed pieces, a cotton napkin and a silk scarf, and the know-how to design and create more pieces on your own.
Prerequisites:
- none!
You will learn:
- about natural dyes and mordants
- about protein and cellulose fibers
- about natural dye stuffs
- how to bundle dye on silk and cotton
- including how to prepare the fabric, place the dye stuffs, bundle and steam the fabric.
We will provide:
- one cotton napkin and one silk scarf to dye
- prepped and ready to dye wide variety dyestuffs
What you need to bring:
- Nothing! But please come in dye-friendly clothes. The process of bundle dyeing is relatively clean but better safe than stained!

This class is being taught by: Leah
Leah is an avid sewist, crafter, and gardener. She has been studying and practicing natural dyeing since 2018. She likes to utilize materials from her kitchen and garden as part of her process. Leah enjoys experimenting with a variety of dye techniques to make silk ribbons, clothing, and yardage for quilts.
