Big Blue Moma baskets are purchased from a fair-trade collective in Ghana, West Africa. They are handmade and as such, size and shape may vary slightly from what is pictured. All baskets are woven by hand with elephant grass indigenous to the Bolgatanga area. Handles are covered with goat leather, reinforcing construction while also adding an extra level of comfort when carrying. Baskets often ship flat and may require reshaping when they arrive. To do so, dip them in water and shape them with your hands. This can be done once or twice a year to hydrate the grasses and tighten up the weave.

This is the most traditional basket shape we carry. The Pot is made by only the master weavers because of it's shape. It's single handle and narrow mouth make it great for laundry, picnics or collecting odds and ends around the house. The black and white handle is a signature of the collective we buy from and the way you can know your neighbors basket also came from Big Blue Moma! Small Pot baskets are approximately 9 inches by 9 inches (and we really mean approximately).
