Knitting Advanced Beginner Classes

​​Here you will find a list and description of all of our current Knitting Advanced Beginner classes. Scroll down to see all the options and when you see the one you want to take follow the Book Now link to be taken to our Booking site to reserve your spot.

The following prerequisites and class policies apply to all Knitting Beginner Classes. Please familiarize yourself with them. Please refer to each class below for a list of supplies.

Prerequisites:

  • Skills required: casting on, knitting, purling, switching between knits and purls, binding off
  • A couple of completed simple projects
  • All required materials can be purchased in store.
  • Minimum registration for this class is 4 students. Maximum is 6.
  • These classes are for those ages 16 and up.

Space in our classes is limited, therefore in order to reserve your seat, a 100% non-refundable deposit is required. You may register for a class in person, online, or over the phone (613-854-9091) with a credit card.

There are no refunds for classes. Please note that we reserve the right to postpone and reschedule a class because of unforeseen circumstances. ​We will make every effort to contact our students to inform them that a class has been cancelled and arrange makeup classes.

Knitting Advanced Beginner Classes 


 Learn to Knit a Hat

Looking to expand your knitting skills, but not sure where to start? We've got the course for you! Learn how to make the Barley Hat in 3 quick weeks. The Barley Hat ranges in size from kid to adult sizes! The course will guide you along as you knit your hat and at the end you will have a learned how to knit a hat.

What you will need:

  • a copy of the pattern available for free download here https://tincanknits.com/pattern/barley (printed or on a phone/tablet, depending on how you prefer to work)
  • 100g ball of worsted weight yarn (we have Malabrigo Rios or Washted, Madelinetosh Vintage or Vintage Mill Ends, or The Fibre Co Cumbria) ** Yarn should be wound and ready to knit with before class (if needed)
  • 4.5 mm (US7) 40cm (16") circular needle
  • 5 mm (US8) 40cm (16") circular needle
  • 5 mm (US8) double pointed needles

We will provide:

  • stitch marker for each student to keep for future knitting projects
  • darning needle to use during class

Skills required: casting on, knitting, purling, switching between knits and purls, binding off

Skills taught: long tail cast on, joining in the round, knitting in the round, decreases, finishing the top of a hat, fixing mistakes (as they arise), invisible method for weaving in ends, blocking
