Knitting Advanced Beginner Classes

​​Here you will find a list and description of all of our current Knitting Advanced Beginner classes. Scroll down to see all the options and when you see the one you want to take follow the Book Now link to be taken to our Booking site to reserve your spot.

The following prerequisites and class policies apply to all Knitting Beginner Classes. Please familiarize yourself with them. Please refer to each class below for a list of supplies.


  • Skills required: casting on, knitting, purling, switching between knits and purls, binding off
  • A couple of completed simple projects
  • All required materials can be purchased in store.
  • Minimum registration for this class is 4 students. Maximum is 6.
  • These classes are for those ages 16 and up.

Space in our classes is limited, therefore in order to reserve your seat, a 100% non-refundable deposit is required. You may register for a class in person, online, or over the phone (613-854-9091) with a credit card.

There are no refunds for classes. Please note that we reserve the right to postpone and reschedule a class because of unforeseen circumstances. ​We will make every effort to contact our students to inform them that a class has been cancelled and arrange makeup classes.

Knitting Advanced Beginner Classes 

Two at a Time Socks

Dive into the art of knitting socks with Laura Twiss! This class is perfect for the next level beginner or those new to knitting socks. Students will learn Turkish cast-on, magic loop, minor colour-work, after-thought heel and tubular bind off. You'll finish the class with a pair of Worsted-weight socks.

We will provide:

  • 1 skein Germantown Worsted-weight yarn for the main colour
  • 1 mini skein Germantown Worsted-weight yarn in the contrast colour
  • 4.5mm (US 7) 100 cm (40in) long circular needles

The gauge will be determined by the maker

You will need:

  • 1 stitch marker
  • 1 two-hole large flat button
  • Waste yarn
  • Darning needle

To save time, the heel will be worked during the first lesson. Homework will be given between classes.

Learn to Knit a Hat

Looking to expand your knitting skills, but not sure where to start? We've got the course for you! Learn how to make the Fernhill Hat from Kelbourne's Year of Bulky Hats Collection. The course will guide you through all the ins and outs of working in the round, and at the end you will have a learned how to knit a hat.

Required Skills:

  • basic casting on
  • knitting
  • purling
  • switching between knitting and purling
  • binding off

You will learn:

  • reading a knitting pattern
  • reading a knitting chart
  • provisional cast on
  • joining in the round
  • knitting and purling in the round
  • reading your knitting
  • decreases
  • finishing the top of a hat
  • fixing mistakes (as they arise)
  • invisible method for weaving in ends
  • blocking

What you will need:

  • a copy of the pattern available for free download here (printed or on a phone/tablet, depending on how you prefer to work)
  • 100g ball of bulky weight yarn (we have Germmantown Bulky by Kelbourne) ** Yarn should be wound and ready to knit with before class (if needed)
  • 5 mm (US8) 40cm (16") circular needle
  • 6 mm (US10) 40cm (16") circular needle
  • 6 mm (US10) double pointed needles
  • crochet hook (size between 4-6 mm, used for provisional cast on) and waste yarn
  • stitch markers large enough to fit on your knitting needle
  • a darning needle
  • optional: a pom pom maker
