Make a placemat! February 01 2015 1 Comment
Who’s up for brightening up someone’s day with a simple sewing project?
At the March session of the Hintonburg Sewcial Club (HSC), we’ll be making spring-themed placemats for the Ottawa branch of Meals on Wheels (MoW). They’ll be delivered to clients with their meals around Easter (early April).
Some of our HSC projects will be accessible online this year. So, if you can’t make it to one of our scheduled sewing nights (check out our Classes page), you can still help out!
MoW has hundreds of clients across the Ottawa area. So, we’re opening up this placemats project to the wider sewing community to see how many we can collect before the end of March. Make as many as you can, and drop them off at Fabrications through to the end of March!
Every day, MoW volunteers are out there delivering nutritious meals to people across Ottawa to help them maintain their health and independence at home. Delivery of these meals is often more than just a meal – visits from these kind volunteers often doubles as a way to check in on people who may have difficulty getting out and about. Read more here about this organization helps seniors and adults who are chronically ill, living with a disability, convalescing from surgery or illness, or undergoing medical treatment.
How’s that for inspiration?!
So, friends, raid your stash for bright colours, Spring-y prints! Use up some random scraps, orphaned quilt blocks, or try out a new quilt block without having to commit to a full quilt! Aim for about 12" x 17" finished size.
Here are some tutorials and examples to get you started:
Let’s brighten up someone’s day and bust a little bit of our fabric stash (you know you want to!) while we’re at it!
